Winding Down

by:

My first season as a baseball umpire is winding down.  With just two games left on my schedule, I have come to realize baseball stopped being fun when I said I’d be the local whipping boy for the sport.  Obviously, I’m not cut out of the “made to be an umpire” mold.  With two games left, I understand I’m going to be free to actually do some stuff I can blog about on here instead of having to stretch and write blogs about baseball on our hunting, fishing, camping website.

I’ve got a bear tag that is just begging to be used.  I don’t know much about bear hunting, but I’m going to give it a good try, and I fully plan on having a blast while trying.  There are lakes and rivers in the area that are chalk full of smallmouth, crappie, and trout and ’tis the season to hook ‘em.   In a few short months, the alpine mountains will be clearing of snow and lakes will be asking me to hike into them for some brookie fishing.  Before I know it, archery season will be here and I’ll be enjoying my favorite of all outdoor experiences in chasing the Rocky Mountain Elk all over through the most awesome scenery in Oregon.  Ahh, yes, there is reason to keep the ol’ chin up!

My husband would love to bear hunt – that is one type of hunting I’m not eager to try!

My wife had her reservations about letting me give it a go, no doubt! I’m going with a rifle, though, to the same place I elk hunt, so it shouldn’t be any different than elk hunting as far as the danger factor goes. Unless we have to track a wounded one – but I’m hoping for a better shot than that!
