Nice account of a Hells Canyon adventure! Ironically enough, I recognize the country and I'm very familiar with those same drainages! Makes your story even more interesting to me. I've put in many miles on the same ground and the memories never fade. Your description of the mystical land is perfect.

My family similiarly started hunting the area in the late 50's early 60's and I too heard stories recounted (often the same one's over and over) every year. I finally was able to make the trek and realized what I'd been missing! Truly a special place to me now, and always will be.

We killed a big bull several years ago during rifle season and it had a broadhead imbedded in its shoulder. I wish I could connect with archer who got so close to this mighty bull and trade stories. I have the recovered piece at home. that was 2002. Any chance you know an archer who arrowed a 6-point that season in the area you describe?

Thanks for the great story.
