We are trying to think of some ways to make posting content easier for all levels of users at Base Camp Legends. I want to let everyone know what we’re thinking of doing, and then invite you all to let us know what you think – and offer suggestions and general feedback.
We want to create a photo album that allows every registered user to upload photos onto the site – we’ll have four or five sections and we’ll host the photos on Flikr. As they say, a pictures is worth a thousand words, so this creates another opportunity for people to tell a story – and that is really what we’re all about here. We want to create more ways fro people to tell stories than just by blogging. The photos would have to be “tagged” specifically in order for them to be aggregated onto Base Camp Legends, or else they will not show up.
Another way to tell a story that we want to activate on the site is for all registered members to be able to upload videos to the site. Again, because of server space, we would host these videos on another site – such as YouTube.  We’re hoping to be able to set it up so that I will post a video explaining how to upload video to YouTube, and then we’re hoping we can set up some form that would simply ask for the embedding code, offer a place to write an optional short story to go with the video, and presto, the video appears.
The final thing we want to make available is a forum. We realize that blogging is not for everyone. In fact, some people just flat don’t like to do it. So, another way to offer people a place to tell a story is by creating a forum so that they can tell their stories there. It would also be available to all registered users. The bottom line is that we love stories and we want to make it easy for people to share their stories. If you have any suggestions on how to allow anyone and everyone to tell a story on this site, please feel free to share your knowledge. If you have suggestions on how to make the idea better – or if you don’t like the idea at all – we’d love to have your opinion.
I think all of them are great ideas, I just honestly don’t know what the best route would be to make it easy for uploading pictures or videos, so good luck with that.
As far as forums go, I wish you the best of luck. I tried running one on our site, but I just did not have the dedication or time it needed in order for the forum to really take off.
They need a lot of time and I hope that yours goes better than mine!
Thanks, Arthur. We hope that the forum just serves as another avenue to allow people to tell their stories – but thanks to your heads up, I will be trying to make sure I devote an adequate amount of time to the task.
