Great Illinois Buck

by:

Back when this site was in it’s infancy, John Marshal – who now writes the blog, Midwest Hunting, sent me an article about his first elk hunt.

John’s first elk from that First elk hunt in Utah.

On that elk hunt was his best friend from high school, Gunnar.  Well, John emailed me a few pictures earlier this fall – and Gunnar has been at it again. This time hunting whitetails in Illinois with Rocky Branch Outfitters. Check out this beauty, and keep checking back on John’s blog to see if he can squeeze the story of the hunt from Gunnar!

Gunnar’s 2008 whitetail.

This is the kind of perfect 8 point many hunters dream of.

Congrats, Gunnar on a great buck!

What a pretty buck. I have an invitation to go hunt whitetails in Kansas next year. I’ve never hunted whitetails before, and this is the sort of buck I would love to get.

That is a nice buck. I’m curious about his name – Gunnar. Is this his real name, last name or nickname? It’s not a big deal, just reminded me of my brothers and their friends. They all call eachother something – hairbone, scruffy, gunner, skeet, BB and the list could go on.

Cory – you and me both!

Hunter’s Wife – I can’t say whether it’s his real name or not – but being Norwegian myself, I do know that Gunnar is a Scandinavian name.

What a great buck. I’m jealous, I know that!
