Hunting for Political Friends

by:

I have an aversion towards politics, kind of a like a mothering moose cow has towards a wolf.  I get dizzy easy and following some of these political arguments and rhetoric go around and around does nothing good to the stomach.  I’ve always been amazed to see someone level headed enter such an arena and have often wondered what possessed them to make such a choice.  For the crooked ones I’m sure its just plain old greed, glory and power.  For the honest ones it can only be a genuine desire to make some sense out government and to serve the people.

It was with interest I watched our state representitive race last year and was pleased when I saw Judy Boyle voted in as District 9 Representative.  She hasn’t disappointed and has become a friend of the hunters.  Her latest Bill that she has went to bat for us on is HB 531.  It seems the names of the successful hunters for wolves this year have been posted on a wolf advocates website and they have been harassed even to the point where one hunter even had to move his children to another location because of threats on him and his family.  Judy’s bill would keep the list of successful hunters from being public information. It would also add criminal sanctions for any harassment of hunters.   At this point the bill is having some wording cleared up on it before it goes any farther.  Judy’s statement in putting forth this bill was, “One of the main reasons of government is to protect its citizens.  No one should be subject to this harassment.”

It was interesting this week as I saw Holly over at NorCal Cazadora getting in a little political punch also.  She has been in touch with an army major that enlightened her and a whole lot of us on their situation.  Often they are stationed in a state that is not their home state and to hunt in that state they often have to purchase out of state licenses and tags.  Please go to Holly’s blog and follow her suggestions as to what we can do.

As much as I have an allergy for politics, I am glad for those that have ventured out in it that have there head screwed on straight and their moral compass is pointing north.  It looks like I also need to contact Representative Boyle to see what we can do for our servicemen and thank her for her service.  It looks like I’m getting my toes wet in that ocean called politics.

I stray away from politics as much as possible basically because I think politics is a waste of my time. I am tired of people telling me what they think I want to hear especially when they are going to do the opposite. I am tired of politicians try to blow smoke up my !@@ just to make themselves sound good and look good.
If you ask me they are all a bunch of hipocrits. This country was run better 100 years ago then it is now and that is a true shame. Who needs politicians anyway, the people knows what needs to be done and what doesn’t need to e done.

Sorry about that, I have wasted enough of my time and yours.

    Thanks for the link!

Politics can indeed be very off-putting, but it goes on whether we participate or not, which means the participants – politicians, activists, etc. – are the ones running the show. Glad to hear you’ve got a politician who is working for you – and who you feel good enough to write about!

I shudder at times when I think about politics as well. The plain fact of the matter, though, is that we have to be involved, because they do effect us in one way or another.

Holly’s idea is a great one as well. I’ve already jumped on board that wagon and contacted my local reps.

Hopefully your representative doesn’t quit when it comes to protecting those wolf hunters. It just never ceases to amaze me that these anti’s consider animal life more important than human life.

    Keep it up!

I don’t like politics, period. It has done more to hurt our country (as Rick said) than help it in the last 100 years. There has never been more PC groups than now and unfortunately I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Ultimately creating more division amongst its citizens rather than unity. Idaho is fortunate to have an advocate on behalf of its hunting community and heritage.

I would say we all agree on one thing – politics can be very frustrating and at times dispicable. I know as our local (20 miles north) US Senator really embarrassed us a couple years ago.(Larry Craig). That is why I was so interested in Judy as she came from the same nieghborhood but evidently a lot better stock. Holly pretty much hit the nail on the head as we haven’t chosen the field of battle, but its either fight there or give in to those that have showed up.

So you see Joe we have our share of strange politicians too, although I’ll agree Ca. has more then their share.
