They’re Back!

Every June we look forward to seeing the first group of bachelor bucks appear on our hillside behind the house. We call them our backyard bucks. A few weeks ago we began seeing our first deer, but they were does…  just when we were wondering if there’d be any bucks this year we began to see some singles come in… small forked horns.

Things have gotten more interesting the last couple of days. A really strange little buck has showed up. It seems he injured one side of his rack. He also has a pendulum hanging off of his brisket area… not sure if it’s a growth or a flap of skin he tore loose… perhaps when he injured his antler? He has been paired up with a high forked horn the last few days, but earlier he came in with a small 4 point. So far it doesn’t seem like there will be near as many bucks this year… last year we saw 16 different bucks on our little hillside!

Ahhhh… appears to be the ‘Tuning Fork’ Buck. Even has an eye guard on his good side which looks to be a 3 point. I’ll put my brand on him! I’ll let you hunt him for a month then I’ll get him last day – sound familiar? You are so kind to allow that!!

Dear Hubby… I do hope he’s still around when Archery deer season opens… and perhaps I’ll take him the first day of the season…sparing you all the suspense of waiting for the last day!

Ahh.. love to see a little friendly competition.

My little whitetails are finally showing enough antler to start getting a feel for what they’ll look like this year. No monsters, and possibly no shooters either… might have to go with an antlerless season here this year.

Haven’t been around to read up lately… glad to see ya’ll are still hard at it!

Thanks for the visit Phillip. In truth there is no competition, as I have conceded a few years ago. We lost a nice little 3 pt on the highway this morning. I am going to be down in your country the later part of Sept, course your country is pretty good size now.
